Sockless

Sockless

If you're anything like me, mini skeins paired with variegated sock yarn offer an irresistible allure but when I get home, I'm faced with the reality that I have a terrible case of single sock syndrome and will never actually make a pair of socks.

The first in this self titled collection, Sockless is an adorable shawlette designed for those who find themselves in a similar situation. The long garter rows compliment heavily variegated yarn while utilizing a full mini skein for charming pops of color.

For airiness and drape, the main body uses a light fingering, while the contrast ribbing is only 110 grams of standard fingering weight, making it a fantastic stash busting feature.

Italic Shawl

"Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance"  - Coco Chanel

What began as a “I’m not sure this will work in a shawl” turned into “Wow, that is stunningly elegant” as the design took shape. Italic has its inspiration based in a technique, but is obviously so much more than that; the  simplicity and elegance hints at high fashion, and color choices make it completely personal. I see this shawl in so many places: wrapped around an LBD coming out of a broadway show, thrown over jeans and a tee on a sunny brunch patio, and even on the beach partially hidden by a gloriously giant sun hat.

The versatility of this design made for a very interesting mood board. From the elegant ballerina to an intense color pop in architecture, there is a lot of contrast, and something for everyone. I hope you enjoy seeing the inspiration and love Italic even more!

It features a lace reminiscent of confetti and an edging designed to mimic the crepe paper streamers of childhood.

Love Is There

Last week had has been a brutal past 72 hours. Incredibly stressful with quite literally no time to knit. Everything finally stopped this afternoon and the kids were begging to go to the park. I reluctantly loaded us all up and bribed myself with the idea of some quiet knitting time.

After sitting down at the picnic table and shooing the kiddos off, I came across a rock from the #thekindnessrocksproject and it was exactly what I needed. The reminder of love and all the forms it takes. To love myself by embracing my humanity.  To take a breath. It will be okay.

Bobble Paw

Bobble Paw

This triangle shawl has gentle angles and is the ideal summer travel project. Beginning in a soothing stockinette that changes to chunky garter stripes, it also has the occasional clusters of eyelets to provide visual interest and shaping support. Ending in a fun lace pattern, it offers a built in fastening solution to make the shawl extremely wearable during the active outings summer weather demands. The bobble bind off offers a charming and quirky touch without branching into a childish appearance.

Kelp

Kelp

Kelp is a shawl to suit the knitter’s mood in any given moment. Designed to work with the yarn you have on hand or a skein that calls to you from your local yarn shop, you can cast on and have a lovely shawl rippling around your shoulders in no time flat.

Fog: A Shawl Recipe

Fog: A Shawl Recipe

Have you ever succumbed to the incredible urge to purchase all the gorgeous lace weight colorways in the local yarn store and come to your senses two days later? I certainly have, and after realizing that I will never knit that gorgeous yarn into anything because, well, it’s lace weight, I decided to do something about it.

“Fog: a shawl recipe” was designed with those impulse buy, hand-painted, lace weight, forever in your stash, squishy, gorgeous skeins in mind. Finally, a pattern to justify the the irresistible call of indulgence which will produce a wearable handknit shawl, no matter your attention span!

This recipe will guide you in creating a spectacular and wearable finished creation, even if you’re dealing with brain fog. Knit until you’ve hit a good stopping point in the color changes, knit until you get bored with the current section, knit until you get a whim to switch. There is no right or wrong here, just what makes your crafting heart sing.

My guidelines are simply suggestions. If anything is vital to the end result of the pattern, it’ll be emphasized. This recipe assumes basic knowledge such as what a garter ridge is, how to pick up stitches, etc.
